DAAT Assertive Response Team (DART) Team Profile, Latest Updates and Contact List
The DART provides frontline substance misuse outreach work across Hackney. They endeavour to engage ‘hard to reach’ individuals with serious drug or alcohol misuse who have not been engaged or been retained in treatment and support services. DART outreach workers aim to work with these people in a responsive, pro-active and flexible manner, often at the point of disengagement from other services or at times when the client is at risk of disengaging and becoming increasingly vulnerable. They focus on various substance misusing street populations including street based sex workers, others associated with street based sex workers, chaotic drug users, poly drug users, dual diagnosis clients, BME clients, homeless people, young adults, Drug Interventions Programme clients, street drinkers and self referrals.
Latest Update St Ignatius drop-in This month the DART has been integral in the setting up and running of a new initiative to do some targeted work with the Central Eastern European (CEE) community in North East London. This will take place at St Ignatius Church that offers a food drop in for CEE’s. The church is situated in Stamford Hill on the border of Hackney and Haringey. Along with professionals from Thamesreach, Social Action for Health and HAGA (Haringey) a scoping exercise has been organised to cover over the next 6 weeks. The first 3 weeks will cover the drop in at St Ignatius on a Friday afternoon this will be followed by 3 weeks of outreach in the surrounding area. The first 2 weeks have seen 43 CEE’s screened. From the assessments collected so far their immediate needs seem to be Housing, employment and substance misuse (mainly alcohol).
DART staff will be working at Lifeline’s community drug service for 3 days a week from 15th February 2010. DART staff will provide support around assessments, drug testing, groups and needle exchange provision. This will be in place for 6 weeks after which both services will be looking at how this work may continue in the future when Lifelines Low Threshold easy access service is introduced in a few months time.
